CONTEST DETAILS

Calling all K-12 students! The Threefoot Festival's Youth Art Contest is your chance to shine. Get ready to unleash your creativity and showcase your artistic talents. Enter the Art Contest, the Photography Contest, or both! 

 

To enter the contest, download the artwork labels below and deliver your artwork to the Meridian Museum of Art from April 2nd - April 6th between 11:00 AM & 5:00 PM. 

Students may enter both the Art and the Photography Contests. Only one entry may be submitted for the Art Contest; Two photographs may be submitted for the Photography Contest (one black & white photo and one color photo).

LABELING INSTRUCTIONS

A completed artwork label must be attached to the back of each entry submitted.

AGE CATEGORIES

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place cash prizes/ribbons, and honorable mentions will be awarded in each of the following age categories: 

  • Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades

  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades

  • 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades

  • 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades

MEDIA CATEGORIES

The Meridian Council for the Arts will determine the category in which your artwork will be judged.

  • Painting - Oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, casein, tempera

  • Drawing - Pencil, ink, charcoal, pastel, crayon

  • Mixed Media - Two or more media, incorporating any number of materials, including collage and assemblage. Combinations of painting and drawing only should be submitted into either the painting or drawing category. 

  • 3D Sculpture - Non-functional object modeled, carved, cast, constructed, or assembled of any material (including clay, glass, acrylic, wood, metal, etc.). Must be freestanding. 

  • Photography
     

HOW TO SUBMIT ARTWORK

Artwork must be delivered to the Meridian Museum of Art (628 25th Avenue; 601-693-1501).

  • Entries will be accepted April 2-6, 2024 between the hours of 11am and 5pm.

  • Please have artwork in a container with your school's name on it.

JUDGING & DISPLAY

Judging of all contest entries will take place on April 16, 2024. All contest entries will be on display in the Meridian Museum of Art during the 2024 Threefoot Festival on Saturday, April 20 from 10am to 4pm. 

​

AWARDS PRESENTATION

Presentation of awards will be made on the main stage at the Threefoot Festival on Saturday, April 20 at 12:00 PM. Three places and one honorable mention will be awarded in each age category.

ARTWORK PICK-UP

Artwork must be picked up at the Meridian Museum of Art on April 25-27 between 11am and 5pm. If arrangements need to be made for another date, please email meridianmuseum@bellsouth.net.

* The Meridian Council for the Arts and the Meridian Museum of Art are not responsible for any works not picked up after April 27.

Sizes & Instructions
 

  • Paintings, drawings, mixed media size limit is 30"x36"
     

  • 3D Sculpture size limit is 24"x36" and must be freestanding
     

  • Artwork is to be mounted on poster board or matted (no frames or glass allowed). Hangers are not needed. 
     

  • Artwork MUST BE SIGNED by the artist and an artwork label must be taped to the back.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

Contest Theme​

  • Use your imagination!
     

  • Photographs will be judged on composition, originality, photographic technical skill, and creativity.

​

Sizes & Instructions
 

  • Students may enter one entry in color and one in black & white. All entries submitted must be the work of the student. 
     

  • Photographs must be 4"x6" mounted on an 8"x10" piece of white poster board, centered. Hangers are not needed. 
     

  • Do not mat or cover the front of the poster board or photograph in any way. 
     

  • An artwork label must be taped to the back.
